About Asheville

Asheville sits at about 2,200 feet in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where the French Broad and Swannanoa rivers meet, ringed by peaks that rise past 6,000 feet. The elevation keeps it roughly five degrees cooler than Charlotte through the year. Biltmore House, finished in 1895 for George Vanderbilt to a Richard Morris Hunt design with grounds by Frederick Law Olmsted, stands south of downtown. The Blue Ridge Parkway is headquartered here, and the River Arts District occupies former warehouses along the French Broad.

Averages are weighted as total dollars over total square feet. We calculate averages based on closed sales in the MLS for the past 12 months, as of September 30, 2026. Averages are based on properties that are listed or sold for $350,000 and greater. Additional reports at all price points are available here. Price-per-square-foot figures are rounded to the nearest dollar, up or down. Where fewer than 5 closed sales exist in the window, we report the count rather than an average.
