Palm Beach

The barrier island town across the Intracoastal from West Palm Beach

About Palm Beach

Palm Beach is a barrier island town of about 8.1 square miles between the Atlantic and the Lake Worth Lagoon, nowhere wider than three quarters of a mile and in places only five hundred feet. Settlers planted the coconuts salvaged from the wreck of the Providencia in January 1878, and the groves that followed gave the island its name. Henry Flagler brought his railway to the far shore in 1894 and opened the Royal Poinciana Hotel that February. The town incorporated on 17 April 1911. Addison Mizner arrived in 1918, and the Everglades Club he built for Paris Singer set the Mediterranean Revival manner the island still keeps.

Averages are weighted as total dollars over total square feet. We calculate averages based on closed sales in the MLS for the past 12 months, as of September 15, 2026. Averages are based on properties that are listed or sold for $350,000 and greater. Additional reports at all price points are available here. Price-per-square-foot figures are rounded to the nearest dollar, up or down. Where fewer than 5 closed sales exist in the window, we report the count rather than an average.
