About Watson Island

Watson Island is a man-made island in Biscayne Bay just east of downtown, on the MacArthur Causeway, named for John W. Watson Sr., a mayor of Miami in the 1910s. It was deeded to the city in 1919 for public use only and its reclamation finished in 1926. Chalk's flew seaplanes from here from 1926 until 2007. The Ichimura Miami-Japan Garden opened in 1961, Parrot Jungle moved onto eighteen acres in 2003 and became Jungle Island in 2007, and the Miami Children's Museum opened its Arquitectonica building the same year.

Averages are weighted as total dollars over total square feet. We calculate averages based on closed sales in the MLS for the past 12 months, as of the latest data update. Averages are based on properties that are listed or sold for $350,000 and greater. Additional reports at all price points are available here. Price-per-square-foot figures are rounded to the nearest dollar, up or down. Where fewer than 5 closed sales exist in the window, we report the count rather than an average.
