Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

A low-rise beach town wrapped around the village of Sea Ranch Lakes

About Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a narrow barrier island town between Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, wrapping around the separate village of Sea Ranch Lakes. Melvin Anglin settled here in 1924 and became its first mayor. The town incorporated in 1927, lost its charter during the Depression and incorporated again in 1947. Its voters have written a height limit into the town charter, holding most new building to three or four stories, which is why there are almost no towers along this stretch of coast. A reef lies about a hundred yards off the beach, close enough to swim to from the sand.

Averages are weighted as total dollars over total square feet. We calculate averages based on closed sales in the MLS for the past 12 months, as of September 14, 2026. Averages are based on properties that are listed or sold for $350,000 and greater. Additional reports at all price points are available here. Price-per-square-foot figures are rounded to the nearest dollar, up or down. Where fewer than 5 closed sales exist in the window, we report the count rather than an average.
