About Key Colony
Key Colony is the gated oceanfront complex of four condos on Crandon Boulevard, about 1,170 residences built 1978 to 1981. Developer Fritz Scharenberg planned it, and paid for a new water main from the mainland in 1977 to serve it. Tidemark, Oceansound and Emerald Bay are 12-story buildings with a pyramid profile sloped at 32 degrees, which gives each floor more privacy, and the four-story Botanica was laid out around living gardens. The complex won the NAHB Grand Award in 1980, and residents share a private beach, 12 tennis courts and an Olympic lap pool.
