Delray Beach

The beach city between Boca Raton and Boynton Beach

About Delray Beach

Delray Beach began as Linton, named for the Michigan congressman who bought the land in 1894, and took its present name in 1898 after a run of crop-killing freezes. The mainland incorporated as the Town of Delray in October 1911, the barrier island as the Town of Delray Beach in October 1923, and the two merged into one city on 11 May 1927. Atlantic Avenue still runs the width of the city as its spine, from the interstate to the ocean. Five locally designated historic districts cover the older ground, four of them named in 1988 and West Settlers in 1997.

Averages are weighted as total dollars over total square feet. We calculate averages based on closed sales in the MLS for the past 12 months, as of September 16, 2026. Averages are based on properties that are listed or sold for $350,000 and greater. Additional reports at all price points are available here. Price-per-square-foot figures are rounded to the nearest dollar, up or down. Where fewer than 5 closed sales exist in the window, we report the count rather than an average.
