About University
These are the blocks around the University of Miami, which George Merrick helped found as part of his plan for the city and which took its first building on Anastasia Avenue. The Coral Gables Waterway runs a western loop through the campus and on to the Mahi Waterway, part of the eight miles of channel that Merrick's corporation cut inland from Biscayne Bay. The campus sits between US 1 and the waterway on the southern side of the city, with the Metrorail line and the South Dixie Highway corridor along its western edge.
